Our Residency Program
We are a family of residents, faculty, and staff that works collaboratively to serve the community that needs us the most. Located in the large metropolitan area of Phoenix, Arizona, our system sees over 175,000 emergency department patients per year. Training at a Level 1 trauma center, our EM residents not only benefit from seeing a large volume of high acuity patients, but as the only categorical residency program at the West Valley Hospital, we provide unabridged care to every patient that comes through the doors. However, the volume and acuity of the emergency department are only a few important aspects of residency training. Our program seeks to produce well-rounded residents in the following ways:
Providing regular access to Midwestern University’s state-of-the-art simulation lab
Providing a curriculum designed to enhance learning and wellness
Fostering resident well-being through regular social events and retreats
Longitudinal programs in Ultrasound, EMS, & Research
Rotations at multiple hospitals allowing you to get a broader perspective
An active medical student education program to foster your teaching skills
Protected time for didactics
Dedication to community service
Advocating for our patients and program through serving on residency and hospital-wide committees
Serving a diverse patient population with regards to education, ethnicity, culture, and socioeconomic status
Providing financial support through textbook, software, and laptop allowances as well a paid expenses if presenting research at a national conference
Above all, we know that our greatest strength is in our people - from our faculty to our residents, our staff come from a wide array of backgrounds and hold an even greater variety of interests. This diversity is not only good for patient care; it leads to a uniquely enriching environment in which to learn. Use the menus above to learn more about who we are and what we stand for.
Minorities in Medicine (MIM) Scholarship
Our program is rooted in the belief that we all must play an active role in diversifying medicine. As part of a multi-pronged approach to addressing racial injustice in the healthcare system, we are offering scholarships of $500 to qualified fourth year medical students traveling from outside of Phoenix to rotate or interview in-person with us. Please see the application for more details.
