Originally hailing from the Bronx, New York, I moved to a small seaside community in Stuart, Florida as an adolescent. The only child of an African-American father and a Japanese mother, my family comprised the bulk of diversity in an otherwise homogeneous southern town. Throughout my childhood and well into adulthood I experienced a great deal of racism, ridicule, and rejection which provided me with valuable life lessons and unbelievable determination. These experiences became the driving force that continue to fuel my determination to succeed!

At the age of 17, I graduated high school and leaned into my football prowess as a tight-end for Ferrum College in Virginia. I eventually returned to Florida to complete my bachelors degree at the University of South Florida where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bio-medical Sciences and a minor in Public Health. Upon completion of my baccalaureate degree, I gained exposer to the medical field through counseling at a behavioral health facility geared toward crisis stabilization for the Tampa bay area. My work as an adult crisis counselor proved to be foundational in my journey to medicine and solidified my passion for treating patients of all social and financial backgrounds. .

Following my time as a counselor, I engaged in pancreatic cancer and digestive disorder research with two eminent Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary surgeons in Tampa. The experience broadened my medical knowledge, but on a more personal level it inspired me to re-evaluate my own health and wellness. I embarked on a journey to change my lifestyle and transformed from an obese man suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and obstructive sleep apnea to an ACSM certified personal trainer, losing over 70 pounds in the process. Undergoing this life change myself gives me a unique perspective into the struggles that patients face when told to make lifestyle changes.

With a new perspective on the importance of health and wellness, I began my journey into medical school at Ross University School of Medicine in January of 2016. I completed my clinical core rotations at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL and ultimately graduated with my M.D. in November of 2019.
