Born and raised in Northern California, I graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in human biology. I subsequently spent several years working in Los Angeles as an EMT for both a private ambulance company and as a tech in a community hospital. It was during this time my passion and curiosity about emergency medicine was first ignited.
During medical school at A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA), I was fortunate to develop a wide variety of clinical interests including but not limited to point of care ultrasound, global health, event medicine, and community/street medicine. For example, I had the special opportunity during medical school on a medical mission trip with DOCARE to remote villages in Belize. We were even able to utilize portable ultrasound to evaluate the kidneys, cardiac function, and other abdominal complaints during these encounters, which was of immeasurable benefit in this environment. Another passion project of mine during medical school was leading community service projects in Central California, including several in which we washed the feet and performed detailed foot exams on some of the most marginalized communities, including the homeless and migrant communities, who for different reasons have limited access to care and might otherwise not present into the clinic or hospital until the condition becomes dire.
Finally, I was a nontraditional medical student and now-resident who acknowledges and is thankful for all the help and advice I have received from countless resources along my journey thus far. As a result, I am passionate about mentorship, education, and guiding the next generation of medical leaders. Thus, I am so excited at the unique opportunity we have here to help build up the emergency medicine residency at Abrazo into the top-tier program we believe it can be.
