Amy Kristensen
Hi there! I’m Amy and my path to/through residency has been winding to say the least! I was born in the UK but moved to the United States at a young age with my older sister and mom. Following that, my life became a series of adventures ranging from living in Australia in my childhood to volunteering in Nepal during my undergraduate collegiate years. I went on to complete my master’s degree in Global Health and Public Policy at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland where I fell in love with the global aspect of medicine and found my life’s purpose in advocating and working with underserved communities. Following stints in New York City as well as South America, I worked for the Arizona state government before realizing my dream of becoming the first physician in my family.
In medical school, I took advantage of the global health options available to me and completed three rotations internationally: the first to the Dominican Republic, the second in a rural Ugandan clinic and the third in a high-acuity emergency department outside of Cape Town in South Africa. I was also able to engage in multiple global-health and social justice related research projects. Beyond my global health work, I had the privilege of serving as my medical school’s 2017 Student Body President.
Outside of medicine, I love staying active! I ran my first marathon in March of 2020 and already have plans for my next one. I also love hiking and exploring new places- to date, I have traveled to over 40 countries! Inspired by my travels, I also love trying new foods, particularly when they are paired with new wines.
